THE Mossman-Port Douglas Sharks celebrated their first win of the Cairns District Rugby League season with a convincing 52-28 win over the Atherton Roosters at Mossman Showgrounds on Saturday night.
The hosts ran in 10 tries to five in a dominant display, with Sharks player-coach Bronson Ryan delighted with his side’s display after two heavy defeats in the first two rounds.
‘‘We are really starting to show some good form now,’’ he said.
‘‘The boys were really committed to the game and it shows that if we stay committed we can really turn some heads.
‘‘Were really developing as a team and I was particularly pleased with our discipline on the day.
‘‘The forwards stepped up and took on the Roosters pack, and Daryl’s (Lightning) leadership was outstanding.’’
The best players for the match were Daryl Lightning, Marcus Sagiba, Lucas Bozier and Ricky Burchill.
The reserves grade team was not so lucky but put up a fight against the Roosters, going down by only one try.
The final score was 24-20 but Ryan said the side has d e f i n i t e l y shown great improvement.
The Mossman-Port Douglas Sharks will meet the Tully Tigers on Saturday, April 6, at the Mossman Showgrounds.
