Sharks con­vinc­ing

THE Moss­man-Port Dou­glas Sharks cel­e­brated their first win of the Cairns District Rugby League sea­son with a con­vinc­ing 52-28 win over the Ather­ton Roost­ers at Moss­man Show­grounds on Satur­day night.

The hosts ran in 10 tries to five in a dom­i­nant dis­play, with Sharks player-coach Bron­son Ryan de­lighted with his side’s dis­play af­ter two heavy de­feats in the first two rounds.

‘‘We are really start­ing to show some good form now,’’ he said.

‘‘The boys were really com­mit­ted to the game and it shows that if we stay com­mit­ted we can really turn some heads.

‘‘Were really de­vel­op­ing as a team and I was par­tic­u­larly pleased with our dis­ci­pline on the day.

‘‘The for­wards stepped up and took on the Roost­ers pack, and Daryl’s (Light­ning) lead­er­ship was out­stand­ing.’’

The best play­ers for the match were Daryl Light­ning, Mar­cus Sag­iba, Lu­cas Bozier and Ricky Burchill.

The re­serves grade team was not so lucky but put up a fight against the Roost­ers, go­ing down by only one try.

The fi­nal score was 24-20 but Ryan said the side has d e f i n i t e l y shown great im­prove­ment.

The Moss­man-Port Dou­glas Sharks will meet the Tully Tigers on Satur­day, April 6, at the Moss­man Show­grounds.
