Stand up, sit down, stand up...just kidding
WHAT do you get if you play a country song backwards? Your dog, car, house, and wife back.
Okay, sorry, that wasn’t funny. Think you can do better?
Consider yourself an amateur comedian? Think you have the talent to take to the big stage? Now is your chance to be part of the funny at the Parrotfish Lodge Open Mic Comedy night.
Get up with your routine and have a crack on stage in front of a friendly crowd on Sunday, May 19.
Limited five to 10-minute spots are open with the best act of the night to receive a spot at the prestigious Carnivale event, The Big Laugh, to help support comedy veterans Matt Mann, Mandy Nolan and Greg Sullivan in their endeavour to bring laughter to the region.
Parrotfish Lodge owner Mick White said he is really looking forward to the Open Mic Comedy night to be hosted by Dave ‘‘OO’’ Evans and hopes to see funny locals bring their own brand of comedy for the audience to savour.
‘‘I am of the opinion that many people in the local community are seriously bored for things to do,’’ he said.
‘‘ I envisage a monthly stand- up gig where those interested and eager can brave the spotlight and work their material while many more would be thrilled to have something regular, something by and for locals and just simply, something to do.
‘‘To start things off we are offering a $400 cash prize to the comedy winner and are very excited to have the support of Festivals Up North with an opportunity for the winner to get up on the main stage at the Big Laugh for a five- minute professional spot at the Sugar Wharf on Thursday, May 23.’’
Signed up so far are the likes of Daniel Leopold, Trent Miller and Billy Comedy but there are a couple of spots still available.
So if you are a wannabe comic, give Mick a call at the Parrotfish Lodge on 4099 5011.
