Sopranos join forces
SOME big names in the classical music scene are joining forces to bring a beautiful concert series to the Far North.
Supreme mezzo soprano Alteouise DeVaughn is recognised around the world for her breathtaking performances and has become a favourite of classical music lovers in the Far North since moving to Port Douglas from the United States a couple of years ago.
For this special series of concerts, DeVaughn is bringing good friend and lyrical soprano Jolie Rocke Brown to perform in the Far North for the first time.
Brown’s career credits include performances in opera, oratorio and church music in roles as diverse as Queen of the Night in Mozart’s The Magic Flute and Clara in Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess.
The pair share their love for tra- ditional spirituals and classical music having worked together in operas, oratorios and concerts throughout the United States and Europe.
Concert pianist and organist at St Monicas Cathedral in Cairns Larry Hammond will accompany the powerful voices of DeVaughn and Brown.
Together these remarkable artists will present a program of solos and duets, performing opera arias, art songs, American spirituals and sacred music.
From May 10 - 19 the trio will travel from Innisfail up and around the region, including performances at St Augustine’s Church in Mossman from 7.30pm on May 14 and St Mary’s Church in Port Douglas at 2pm on May 19.
Tickets are $25 or $20 concession and will be available at the door.
