So­pra­nos join forces

SOME big names in the clas­si­cal mu­sic scene are join­ing forces to bring a beau­ti­ful con­cert se­ries to the Far North.

Supreme mezzo so­prano Al­teouise DeVaughn is recog­nised around the world for her breath­tak­ing per­for­mances and has be­come a favourite of clas­si­cal mu­sic lovers in the Far North since mov­ing to Port Dou­glas from the United States a cou­ple of years ago.

For this spe­cial se­ries of con­certs, DeVaughn is bring­ing good friend and lyri­cal so­prano Jolie Rocke Brown to per­form in the Far North for the first time.

Brown’s ca­reer cred­its in­clude per­for­mances in opera, or­a­to­rio and church mu­sic in roles as di­verse as Queen of the Night in Mozart’s The Magic Flute and Clara in Gersh­win’s Porgy and Bess.

The pair share their love for tra- di­tional spir­i­tu­als and clas­si­cal mu­sic hav­ing worked to­gether in op­eras, or­a­to­rios and con­certs through­out the United States and Europe.

Con­cert pi­anist and or­gan­ist at St Mon­i­cas Cathe­dral in Cairns Larry Ham­mond will ac­com­pany the pow­er­ful voices of DeVaughn and Brown.

To­gether th­ese re­mark­able artists will present a pro­gram of so­los and duets, per­form­ing opera arias, art songs, Amer­i­can spir­i­tu­als and sa­cred mu­sic.

From May 10 - 19 the trio will travel from In­n­is­fail up and around the re­gion, in­clud­ing per­for­mances at St Au­gus­tine’s Church in Moss­man from 7.30pm on May 14 and St Mary’s Church in Port Dou­glas at 2pm on May 19.

Tick­ets are $25 or $20 con­ces­sion and will be avail­able at the door.
