Central dips into pockets to help charities with trivia
THE Central Hotel in Port Douglas is providing a generous helping hand to local not-for-profit charity organisations.
The pub has a monthly budget of $500 to donate to a good cause and has chosen one Wednesday K-Star trivia night per month to give the money away, inviting local charity groups to take part and receive the benefits of a charity trivia night.
Groups charge $10 entry to their supporters and hold raffles with the Central Hotel providing nibbles and of course the $500 cash donation.
The first organisation to benefit from the initiative was Paws and Claws, which raised a total of nearly $1500 to put towards their proposed development of a new facility to house homeless animals and provide boarding kennels to the region.
The next charity organisation set to take part in holding a charity trivia night is W.A.S.H (Women and Children’s Street Home in Nepal which was started and supported by local Mossman residents) and will be held on Wednesday, May 15.
From May to November the trivia nights have been taken up with Tangaroa Blue on June 12, Port Douglas Coast Guard on July 24, KIND (Kids In Need of Donation) on August 21, LIPS (Low Isles Preservation Society) on September 18, DSSG (Douglas Shire Sustainability Group) on October 16 and the Committee in Motion dance group on November 13.
If you are part of a not-for-profit organisation that could benefit from a charity trivia night and are interested in the December spot, contact the Central Hotel on 4099 5271.
