Sharkies defend home record
SATURDAY night saw the Mossman Port Douglas Sharks host the Edmonton Storm in three grades of high class rugby league over the weekend.
The A-grade fixture saw the mighty Sharks stay undefeated at home winning a very tight and exciting game.
It was a tough with Edmonton scoring two early tries before the Sharks kicked into gear and scored one of their own to go into halftime down 10-6. The second half saw the Sharks come out firing, scoring two tries in quick succession before Edmonton answered with two more tries, but with 10 minutes to go the Sharks then stepped up to score again to take the lead 24-20. Edmonton had two great chances to score but the Sharks defended brilliantly to keep their hopes alive and with only two minutes to go the Sharks kicked a field goal and then had to defuse a short kick off to finally run out 25-20 winners. Tryscorers for the Sharks were Daryl Lightning 2, Bronsan Ryan, and Mervyn Missionary with Lyall Murghar kicking four goals and Colridge Dabah kicking the field goal. Best on field were Daryl Lightning, Aiden Smith, Lucas Creek, Bronsan Ryan and Lyall Murghar.
The reserves saw the Sharks fell short against a quality Storm side but the Sharks never gave up and the final score was 42- 34. Tryscorers were Luke Haywood, Luke Vidito, Tristan Bowen, Bryson Creek, Gavai Wallace and Jamaal Cannon scoring two while Justin Kooka kicked five goals. Best on field were Jamaal Cannon, Vernon Cannon, Demilio Denman and Bryson Creek. C-grade kicked the nights action off with a very tight and entertaining game.
Edmonton converted four of their tries while the Sharks only landed one to fall short 32 to 26.
This weekend sees the Sharks travelling to Yarrabah on Sunday to take on the Seahawks. The Sharks C-grade are playing on Saturday at Barlow Park at 4.30pm.
