A CAIRNS Regional Councillor yesterday withdrew his rescission motion which jeopardised funding for a $2.5 million bridge at Woobadda Creek crossing.

Councillor John Schilling had planned to attempt to unwind an earlier decision by the council to pledge up to $470,000 to the new bridge, saying the new Douglas council should pay for it.

But Cr Schilling’s rescission notice was withdrawn from the council’s agenda at the last minute yesterday and the CRC’s contri- bution to the $2.47 million bridge project remains firm.

Mayor Bob Manning said he understood the angst among councillors on both sides of the boundary lines, but any expenditure between now and the de-amalgamation on January 1 next year would be taken into account when cash and assets are divided.

Division 10 Councillor Julia Leu urged council to get on with the job of building the bridge before the next wet season.
