Lat­ti­tude 16 own­ers charged with mul­ti­ple of­fences

PORT Dou­glas ac­com­mo­da­tion com­pany Lat­i­tude 16 has been charged with 10 of­fences by the Of­fice of Fair Trad­ing and both di­rec­tors Chris and Lorna Duffy have each been charged with the same of­fences.

In Fe­bru­ary the OFT started an in­vesti- gation into the com­pany and di­rec­tors, con­duct­ing a raid on sev­eral Lat­i­tude 16 properties, seiz­ing pa­per­work and com­put­ers.

The of­fences in­clude four counts of mak­ing false or mis­lead­ing rep­re­sen­ta­tion that per­son mak­ing the rep­re­sen­ta­tion has a spon­sor­ship, ap­proval or af­fil­i­a­tion, four counts of re­stric­tion on rem­edy for re­ward or ex­pense and one count of each cor­po­ra­tion must en­sure in­di­vid­ual who per­forsm ac­tiv­i­ties of res­i­dent let­ting agent re­sides perma- nently as re­quired and en­sure an­other in­di­vid­ual who is a res­i­dent let­ting agent or real es­tate agent is in charge of busi­ness at other place. Last Thurs­day the mat­ters were heard in the Cairns Mag­is­trates Court and ad­journed to May 27 for fur­ther men­tion.
