QCWA bake cake battle
IT WAS aprons and icing sugar at 20 paces last Friday as the Queensland Country Women’s Association held a delicious cake and slice competition in Port Douglas.
The bake-off attracted 22 entries, including three men who challenged for the title, with renowned show judge Jan Anderson helping sift the best from the rest.
Kaz Harper earned the honour of cake queen with her zucchini ring cake beautifully decorated with a fresh flower.
In other categories, Jeff Flemming earned a first prize for the boys with his eggplant chutney while Pat Donovan earned honours in the new packet cake category with her iced carrot cake decorated with fresh flowers.
Those who won first now have the opportunity to enter at the next level, the QCWA Far Northern Division, in Babinda next month.
QCWA president Port Douglas Jill Thoroughgood said it was a fun day with some lovely cakes which were then auctioned off by Century 21 principal Phil Holloway.
‘‘Fun and frivolity prevailed with over $ 300 raised for the QCWA head office,’’ she said.
