Junior Crocs bite into Cairns

Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - CLASSIFIEDS -

the young Crocs didn’t know what they were in for. The majority of the team were the size of 12-year-olds. Even playing against a taller opposition the Croc’s were first to the ball at most times and with quick handballs they were into the forward line quickly on several occasions. When down forward the Crocs were very accurate scoring six majors for the day and only two minors which weren’t far off goals. Young gun Scotty Cooper got a bag fall of goals for the day, with Daniel and Kye scoring a major each for there efforts. Player of the day went to the ‘‘Snake’’ Slade Roberts showing great courage in the backline, resulting in stopping the opposition from scoring on a few separate occasions. Macca’s awards went to Sam Wall and Nash Thompson. Also an extra award this week being a Macca’s footy going to a well deserved Hayden Caswell stepping up from the Under-8s to help out, his great speed and skills were shown throughout the game. attacking raids with accurate passes to space as well as kicking several goals. Tom Goodall also dominated around the ground and took a stack of strong marks in defence. Drew Bayne and Fraser Allen on the wings were finding plenty of ball and continually fed the half forward line where Tully Cartwright was the focal point. He didn’t let them down taking contested overhead marks then finishing with some long goals. The Crocs’ back six need to be commended on their efforts as they only conceded six points all game. With tight and committed play they were able to cut off the Lions and run the ball straight back into their attack. One raid forward saw Sean Evans run off the halfback line and kick a nice goal. Charlie Burns and Corey Taite changed well on the ball and were dangerous around goals and hard ball getters in the middle. Nathen Pidgeon gets better each week and is playing his best footy ever and played with a great never-say-die attitude. It is great to see a few more people getting along to watch the boys play as they are playing some good team football and certainly enjoy the support. The Crocs won 13.3.81 to 1.0.6. Goalscorers were Tully Cartwright (5), Angus Dickson (3), Fraser Allen (2), Corey Taite, Brent Davidson and Sean Evans. Best on ground was Angus Dickson and awards went to Finn Cameron, Tom Goodall, Tully Cartwright, Tyson Fraser, Corey Taite and Taidhg Harkin.
