PORT Douglas Under-16s Crocs U16 lined up last Friday night against Pyramid Power in Cairns. After last week’s disappointing home loss, this was a must win for the boys if they wanted to stay in contention for finals footy. With the help of a good wind at their backs, the boys came out in force playing great team footy. Their play was fast and furious, stamping their dominance in the first quarter. Ethan and Connor kicked a goal each and Joe was on fire, kicking two goals, and the Crocs led 4.1.25 to 0. The Power fought back in the second quarter and it was now game on, capitalising on errors made by the Crocs and taking control of the game. The Crocs only scored one point for the quarter to the Power’s 28. Nathan showed some great skill and was dependable as our last line of defence. With a steely resolve and some quick thinking, the Crocs fought back to be within six points of Power. The last quarter saw the Crocs kicking into the wind and they knew their opponents could easily kick a bag of goals. To their credit they wore down their opposition with fantastic team and running play. Mitch settled the team with a great goal late in the quarter and Cahill kicked the goal to seal the game for the boys, a brilliant effort saw them winners by one point. Best Players were C Zealand, N Evans, J Todd, J Denison, J Wren, E McCullough, M Bohm and C Rankin.
