Surely it’s just a coincidence

COCONUT is not one for conspiracy theories, but this one seems intriguing. Tourism Tropical North Queensland sent out an email to its database of members this week encouraging them to get involved in Carnivale. The only thing is, the only events it was promot- ing were the Longest Lunch and Food, Wine and a Taste of Port - the two events owned by Events NQ, which is owned by the family of Cairns Regional Council Mayor Bob Manning. With council providing TTNQ with hundreds of thousands of dollars in funding each year, Coconut is sure is was just a coincidence that TTNQ’s call to action related only to those two events. When Coconut contacted TTNQ to ask if the Mayor had requested some encouragement on Events NQ’s behalf, a spokeswoman clarified ‘‘I can’t answer that, only explain the process. The events which were included in last’s week’s member communication were the two key events for this weekend and the only ones that I received media releases for.’’ That’s that cleared up then.
