DANNY Ross has advanced into the top eight on The Voice Australia after Joel Madden threw him a lifeline after failing to win the public vote with his uber cool rendition of the Jimi Hendrix classic All Along The Watch Tower. Madden picked him ahead of fellow contestant Lyric McFarland after the sing-off. ‘‘You’ve got this mysterious thing about you and we want to know more,’’ Madden told Ross. ‘‘If I could, I would take you back to America and record with you.’’

Ross belted out the Hendrix classic on Monday’s showdown episode, earning unanimous praise from the judges. Seal was impressed by the 30-year-old’s stage presence, telling him he wanted to see more.

‘‘I love the song, I love what you’re about and I want to see more of it,’’ he said.

Delta Goodrem raved about Ross’ eclectic style and personality.

‘‘You just are so cool and exude this really fascinating quality that’s really something of another era,’’ she said.
