OPERATIONAL matters regarding Douglas are being deferred for the new Douglas Shire Council, including tendering out for the operation and management of the Wonga Beach Caravan Park. The Cairns Regional Council has proceeded to tender for the operation and management of Bramston Beach and Palm Cove caravan parks but withdrew Wonga from the tender process. Manager Parks and Leisure Brett Spencer said council was allowing the incoming Douglas Shire Council to make a decision concerning the long-term use of the caravan park.

‘‘It is envisioned that the contract would be offered for a term of between 10 and 20 years and - dependent on the nature of the tenders received - may involve significant capital investment by the successful tenderer,’’ he said.

‘‘It would therefore be appropriate for the new council to assess and award that tender. In the meantime, the current caretaker arrangement will continue.’’
