Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - CLASSIFIEDS -

THE Douglas Junior Netball competition started this week with the 10-and-under Beach Babes playing Michelle Teasdale’s learner team.

Michelle’s team have completed seven weeks of their Net Set Go program and were ready to take the court against the Babes.

The new players put in a great performance showing their newly learned skills scoring a goal against their more experienced opposition.

Best players were Evie Cotton, Chelsea McKay, Andy Heidke and Courtney Geddes.

The Young Stars and Alison’s girls trained for half an hour then took the court both teams competed well, with Alison’s team showing they are ready to play netball.

Both sides had a great time and enjoyed their afternoon of netball.

The competition hotted up with the Diamonds playing Extreme and although the Diamonds came out on top the Extreme team played a great game.

Both teams have newcomers who are settling in well.

Best and fairest went to Marina Prince and Kyah Francis and players’ choice were Mikaela Fischer and Raine Ward.

The Pythons played the Saints and the Saints who are in great form started strongly to lead 4-0 after the first half before the Pythons fought back in the third quarter with two unanswered goals.

But they could not keep it going for a win and Saints won 5-2.

Best players Jay Heidke, Tayhla Cadiente, Jaime Thurtell and Koreena Minniecon.

The Young Guns 1 team played the Strikers in the 14-16 competition.

The Young Guns side very depleted due to illness with Kyah Francis and Keely Harold for playing up from the 12s.

They struggled to score against the in- form Strikers but the second half proved to be a better combination with the Young Guns scoring six goals compared to just one in the first, but not enough to make an impression on the experienced Strikers who won 20-7.

Best players were Madison Malone, Tiah McLean, Samaria Denman and Sophie May.

The Hot Shots played Young guns 2 in a close game. Both teams were evenly matched with the Hot Shots up 6-5 at half time and looked to take the game as they were playing some very good team netball. The Young Guns settled into their game and eventually got away with the win 15-13. Best players were Jade Tate, Daisy Hawkes, Shania Jacobsen and Molly Lester.
