PORT Douglas and Mossman will be getting designated parking bays for recreational vehicles, to make the area more accessible for travellers. Yesterday Cairns Regional Council endorsed a RV Strategy which will see the bays created also in the Cairns CBD, to reaffirm council’s commitment to be ‘‘RVfriendly but not free’’.

Mayor Bob Manning said Council wants all travellers to feel wel- come and make the region more accessible and attractive to RV travellers.

‘‘ In doing so, however, we acknowledge the importance of supporting our local businesses by encouraging visitors to utilise the existing caravan parks our region has to offer,’’ he said. The designated parking bays will be in Wharf St, Port Douglas and in Foxton Avenue, Mossman, which will also have a free black water dumppoint facility.

The RV strategy also reinforces the enforcement under Council’s existing Local Laws of illegal camping on roadsides and other areas.
