$359 mil­lion up 1 per cent Vis­i­tors to Aus­tralia from the UK mar­ket de­clined for the year-end­ing De­cem­ber 2012, re­flect­ing the com­bined im­pacts of the eco­nomic sit­u­a­tion, the Lon­don Olympic Games and the shift in hol­i­days for the Di­a­mond Ju­bilee. VFR and Busi­ness Event vis­i­tor num­bers re­turned to pos­i­tive growth. Vis­i­tor ex­pen­di­ture in­creased for the year end­ing De­cem­ber 2012, how­ever vis­i­tor nights were down 1 per cent.. En­cour­ag­ingly, in­dus­try feed­back sug­gests that the Jan­uary book­ing pe­riod started well for youth and main­stream op­er­a­tors, as well as some air­lines.

UK vis­i­tors have a slight gen­der skew as 60 per cent of 30-49-year-old vis­i­tors are male

41 per cent of UK vis­i­tors ar­rived through Syd­ney and 20 per cent through Melbourne

92 per cent ex­pe­ri­enced out­door/na­ture based ac­tiv­i­ties

49 per cent were Queens­land first-time vis­i­tors
