$258 mil­lion up 9 per cent A strong sec­ond half of the year saw over­all vis­i­tor num­bers to Aus­tralia from the USA reach 443,000 in 2012, up 5 per cent on 2011. This in­cluded growth across the ma­jor seg­ments, a re­sult that has been rare over the past decade, with in­creases in Hol­i­day, Busi­ness and Vis­it­ing Friends and Rel­a­tives. De­spite the strength of the Aus­tralian dol­lar, in the 12 months to Septem­ber 2012, Amer­i­cans were stay­ing longer, spend­ing more, and vis­it­ing re­gional ar­eas be­yond Syd­ney, Melbourne, Bris­bane and Perth. Ex­pen­di­ture in Aus­tralia to­talled A$1.26 bil­lion.

Queens­land had the largest in­crease in US vis­i­tor num­bers
