$258 million up 9 per cent A strong second half of the year saw overall visitor numbers to Australia from the USA reach 443,000 in 2012, up 5 per cent on 2011. This included growth across the major segments, a result that has been rare over the past decade, with increases in Holiday, Business and Visiting Friends and Relatives. Despite the strength of the Australian dollar, in the 12 months to September 2012, Americans were staying longer, spending more, and visiting regional areas beyond Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth. Expenditure in Australia totalled A$1.26 billion.
