$521 mil­lion down 3 per cent More than one mil­lion vis­i­tors from New Zealand trav­elled to Aus­tralia last year. Leisure vis­i­tors were the largest growth seg­ment, with Hol­i­day ar­rivals up two per cent and Vis­it­ing Friends and Rel­a­tives. For the year end­ing Septem­ber 2012, New Zealan­ders were spend­ing more in Aus­tralia and stay­ing longer, on their vis­its. There was a de­cline how­ever in the num­ber of nights spent in re­gional Aus­tralia, down 5 per cent. Anec­do­tal feed­back sug­gests this has been af­fected by higher ground costs.

Queens­land has the largest share of NZ vis­i­tors at 38 per cent 93 per cent of NZ vis­i­tors are on a re­peat visit New Zealand vis­i­tors make up 20 per cent of in­ter­na­tional vis­i­tors to

24 per cent of NZ vis­i­tors to Aus­tralia en­ter via Bris­bane

11 per cent of NZ vis­i­tors to Queens­land are over 70.
