Architect’s top honour
A NEWELL Beach house project received special commendation at this year’s 2013 Far North Queensland Regional Architecture Awards.
The project called ReNewell, was a renovation of an original property completed at the end of last year, which expands on previous works into possibilities of flexible and open ways of living in the tropics.
Charles Wright Architects were the masterminds behind the design, which combined alterations and additions to the original cottage for a beach house suitable for the holiday rental market, to cater to families.
The house has a large open living and dining area both indoor and out with breakout decks onto the pool and down to the beach.
The Australian Institute of Architects also awarded Charles Wright Architects the House of the Year Award, for their Glass House project in Edge H i l l , which was described as ‘‘an experiment in sampling the modernist principals and melding it with a contemporary mode of living in the tropics’’.
‘‘This was the first time I won House of the Year Award, it’s great,’’ Mr Wright said.
