Red tape hurting businesses

Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - FRONT PAGE -

RED Tape is crippling businesses, with over 620 businesses reporting an increase in the overall time it takes to comply with regulation over the past two years, according to a National Red Tape Survey.

The Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s survey revealed out of 870 businesses surveyed nationally, 44 per cent of businesses spend up to five hours a week complaing with government regulatory requirements, including filling out forms and applying for permits.

Over 40 per cent spent over $10,000 complying with government regulations last year and over half of the businesses agree red tape has impacted their businesses and prevented them from making changes or expanding their business.
