Sharkies fall to hot Mareeba at home
ALL three grades of the Mossman Port Douglas Sharks just weren’t strong enough against the Mareeba Gladiators on Saturday night.
The A-Grade side were beaten in a high scoring game, playing for 50 minutes with only 12 players after having one player sent off in the first half.
The final score was 58-20, with the best on field being Daryl Lightning, Lyall Murgha and Marcus Sagiba.
The reserves was a very close game going down to the end with Mareeba scoring in the final two minutes to win 36-30, while C-Grade was another entertaining abd tough fought game with Mareeba winning 30-16.
This Saturday night the Sharks play Ivanhoes at the Mossman Showground with the first game kicking off at 4pm and the main game at 7pm.
Sharks vice-president Troy Hilditch said this weekends game will be a tough contest with Ivanhoes on a three-game winning streak.
‘‘The Ivanhoes have been playing some really good footy, we hope to get a big crowd once again to support us as this is our second of four home games in a row,’’ he said.
‘‘There will be no games to be played next weekend due to the long weekend.
‘‘This week we will be working on our defence again and more set plays.’’ The judicial meeting last week saw one Sharks player suspended for two games and another a suspended sentence.
