Sharkies fall to hot Ma­reeba at home

ALL three grades of the Moss­man Port Dou­glas Sharks just weren’t strong enough against the Ma­reeba Gla­di­a­tors on Satur­day night.

The A-Grade side were beaten in a high scor­ing game, play­ing for 50 min­utes with only 12 play­ers af­ter hav­ing one player sent off in the first half.

The fi­nal score was 58-20, with the best on field be­ing Daryl Light­ning, Lyall Murgha and Mar­cus Sag­iba.

The re­serves was a very close game go­ing down to the end with Ma­reeba scor­ing in the fi­nal two min­utes to win 36-30, while C-Grade was an­other en­ter­tain­ing abd tough fought game with Ma­reeba win­ning 30-16.

This Satur­day night the Sharks play Ivan­hoes at the Moss­man Show­ground with the first game kick­ing off at 4pm and the main game at 7pm.

Sharks vice-pres­i­dent Troy Hilditch said this week­ends game will be a tough con­test with Ivan­hoes on a three-game win­ning streak.

‘‘The Ivan­hoes have been play­ing some re­ally good footy, we hope to get a big crowd once again to sup­port us as this is our sec­ond of four home games in a row,’’ he said.

‘‘There will be no games to be played next week­end due to the long week­end.

‘‘This week we will be work­ing on our de­fence again and more set plays.’’ The ju­di­cial meet­ing last week saw one Sharks player sus­pended for two games and an­other a sus­pended sen­tence.
