Juniors put in top effort

Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - CLASSIFIEDS -

A COLLECTION of some of the finest soccer and futsal players in our local schools joined forces to attend the 12 years and under Peninsular Regional championships last Sunday in Trinity Beach.

The Douglas Cluster took on the likes of Innisfail, Mulgrave, Cairns, Barron River, Atherton, Tully, Silkwood/ Mena Creek, Cairns Independent and Mareeba.

The Douglas lads were a mix of experienced players and a few that had never played before and most of the boys were Under-11s in an Under-12s competition, but showed some exceptional talent on the field.

In nine rounds of football the boys won four games, lost four games and drew one game.

It was a brilliant effort by the mixed team against some very experienced players from the other sides.

Josh Edward, Charlie Dowling, Jack Jenkins and Jack Carr were assaulting the net and opposing goalie with goal after goal, making the Douglas Cluster known to their opponents.

Curtis White, Bailey Morrison, Rueben Allison, Nicholas Rayner, Jake Read, Connor White, Che Gonsalves and Mitch Ralston all were showing fantastic defence and kept moving the ball forward..

The boys finished fourth out of 10 teams, all exhausted but happy.
