Judo medals galore
THE Coral Coast Judo Club blitzed the recent Cairns Invitational Open, returning victorious with 10 medals between them.
The Cairns Invitational Open was held at Northern Beaches Dojo in Yorkey’s Knob on Sunday.
Around 50 competitors came from Townsville, Malanda, Ravenshoe, Mossman Coral Coast Judo Club and three clubs of Cairns Northern Beaches, Southside and Jigsaw.
The Coral Coast Judo Club, were showing superior discipline, throws and general smooth moves against their competitors.
John Brendecke couldn’t resist dusting off his Judogi and competing in the Open Men’s division where he performed some beautiful throws that won him the gold medal.
Hailey Brodie also brought home the gold in the Under-8s. Summer Bellero, Holly Brodie, Skye Stevens and Ryder Sheridan all earnt themselves a silver medal in their junior divisions while Rachel Sheridan took home silver in the open womens and Daniel Albury took home a silver in his division and a bronze in the open men’s. Tai Stevens took home a bronze in the Under-8s.
Judo superstar Skye Stevens has been selected to be on the Queensland Judo team and has been invited to compete in the Australian National Championships in Wollongong in June.
