Judo medals galore

THE Coral Coast Judo Club blitzed the re­cent Cairns In­vi­ta­tional Open, re­turn­ing vic­to­ri­ous with 10 medals be­tween them.

The Cairns In­vi­ta­tional Open was held at North­ern Beaches Dojo in Yorkey’s Knob on Sun­day.

Around 50 com­peti­tors came from Townsville, Malanda, Raven­shoe, Moss­man Coral Coast Judo Club and three clubs of Cairns North­ern Beaches, South­side and Jig­saw.

The Coral Coast Judo Club, were show­ing su­pe­rior dis­ci­pline, throws and gen­eral smooth moves against their com­peti­tors.

John Bren­decke couldn’t re­sist dust­ing off his Ju­dogi and com­pet­ing in the Open Men’s di­vi­sion where he per­formed some beau­ti­ful throws that won him the gold medal.

Hai­ley Brodie also brought home the gold in the Un­der-8s. Sum­mer Bellero, Holly Brodie, Skye Stevens and Ry­der Sheri­dan all earnt them­selves a sil­ver medal in their ju­nior di­vi­sions while Rachel Sheri­dan took home sil­ver in the open womens and Daniel Al­bury took home a sil­ver in his di­vi­sion and a bronze in the open men’s. Tai Stevens took home a bronze in the Un­der-8s.

Judo su­per­star Skye Stevens has been se­lected to be on the Queens­land Judo team and has been in­vited to com­pete in the Aus­tralian National Cham­pi­onships in Wol­lon­gong in June.
