Closing up after 22 years

Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - FRONT PAGE - Jessie Tolson

AFTER 22 years, Walkers Auto Repairs are closing the bonnet and putting down the tools for the last time in their Craiglie workshop.

With the looming demolition of the current Coles Express Service Station and adjoining garage workshop, Craig and Tess Walker found out 12 months ago that their lease would be up, with no option of renewal.

Craig said he has mixed feelings about the closure of his business.

‘‘On the one hand it is refreshing to possibly have a change but on the other it is sad - 22 years is a long time,’’ he said.

‘‘The customers have been loyal and kind and I have made some strong friendships here.

‘‘We were given plenty of notice; the landlord has been great.

‘‘I am now going to have a break and weigh up my options for the future.

‘‘We would like to thank all of our valued customers in the past and present for their continued loyalty and friendship over the last 22 years,’’ he said.

The workshop closed for business last Friday and the lease officially ended today.
