Mon­ster Maths in Moss­man

MOSS­MAN State Pri­mary school cel­e­brated National Lit­er­acy and Nu­mer­acy Week by hold­ing its an­nual Mon­ster Maths Day last Tues­day morn­ing.

Each class was re­spon­si­ble for pro­vid­ing a cou­ple of ac­tiv­i­ties for all the stu­dents to visit and en­joy do­ing maths.Ac­tiv­i­ties in­cluded speed games with stack­ing cups and an­other rac­ing with times ta­bles. There were wa­ter games around vol­ume, dance offs in­volv­ing op­er­a­tions, the fa­mous choco­late dice game, javelin straw throw­ing and fish­ing for tar­get num­bers. There was cal­cu­la­tor hop­scotch, Mad Money rob the nest, trad­ing, pat­tern­ing and much more. The pur­pose of the day is to cre­ate a fair-like at­mos­phere where the whole school is im­mersed in how much fun math­e­mat­ics can be.‘‘It is spec­tac­u­lar fun, the best ac­tiv­ity is the stack­ing cups races,’’ said Petrie Miller. ‘‘Mon­ster Maths is a fun day, I will miss it when I go to high school,’’ added Micah Walker.
