Missy heads up Music Botanica

Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - FRONT PAGE -

MUSIC Botanica is back and this time it is set under the stars in the beautiful great outdoors that is the Cairns Botanical Gardens, with a very special guest.

Chart topper and award winning songstress Missy Higgins will play to the crowd on October 11, along with Tropical North’s very own The McMenamins, filling the open air with angelic vocals and music.

After a whirlwind career led her to the top of the ARIA charts, Australia’s sweetheart Missy Higgins travelled the world performing such hits as Scar, The Special Two, Steer and Ten Days.

Privately, Missy made the decision to take a step back from music and do something else and had a few years out of the spotlight where she penned the songs for last year’s album release ‘‘The Ol’ Razzle Dazzle’’.

She comes to Cairns fresh, hungry and reborn and the Music Botanica show is not to be missed.

Providing some great support is The McMenamins, who are an independent acoustic duo that have released four albums, received critical acclaim, played major festivals and toured Australia and the US as well as being the support act for such bands as Ben Lee, Ray LaMontagne and The Waifs.

Pack your picnic rugs and baskets for this special experience on the beautiful lawns and under the stars.

Program & Events Coordinator, Roz Pappalardo said ‘‘Missy’s stripped back, acoustic show in the lush garden surrounds on a Friday evening will be a sublime wind down show for the end of the working week and we’re inviting guests to bring along their picnic blankets, take a seat under the stars and kick back to yet another night of Music Botanica - an outdoor event reserved solely for artists the calibre of Gurrumul, who will play there Sunday 15 September, and past artists such Angus and Julia Stone and Sarah Blasko.’’

The concert will be held on October 11 at the Flecker Botanic Gardens, Collins Avenue, Edge Hill.

Food and drink will be on sale on the evening but feel free to pack a picnic of your own, picnic chairs are also welcome but will be positioned towards the back.
