First Lake­land Camp Draft ropes them in from far and wide

LAKE­LAND Horse Sports As­so­ci­a­tion ran its first Camp Draft on Septem­ber 7 and 8 in per­fect weather.

There were five events in all, from 12 years and un­der right through to novices.

The or­gan­is­ers were grate­ful to lo­cal spon­sors who put money, time, equip­ment, live­stock and them­selvesinto the week­end.

Satur­day night’s en­ter­tain­ment­fea­tured live mu­sic, a laser light show, me­chan­i­cal bull, fast mov­ing swing, a mer­chan­dise auc­tion, as well as a flurry of bids for a slow dance with a lovely young lady who helped with the fundrais­ing cause.

Or­gan­is­ers said peo­ple who came from Lake­land and Cook­town for the first time said they would come and do it again next year.

There were com­peti­tors from as far as Ing­ham, Tully, Dim­bu­lah, Ma­reeba and Moss­man.
