Sticks out, it’s final time

Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - CLASSIFIEDS -

THE day that our local pub sportsters have been waiting for is fast approaching.

The Port Douglas Pool Competition grandfinal day will be held on Sunday at the Court House Hotel, and the competition champions will battle it out for the ultimate bragging rights.

After two weeks of finals, the grand finalists were decided on Monday night.

The B grade grandfinal will kick off at 11am and will see Tavern 2 versus Cocos 2.

Yacht Club will meet with Rattle and Hum (formerly Plantation team), for the A grade final, a match up that has been played out many times over recent years.

President of the competition Chris Shiel said it is a celebration of the past five months of competition.

‘‘It will be exciting, nerve-racking, and there will be a lot of pressure, but all in the name of fun,’’ he said.

‘‘Everyone that qualified for finals by playing at least five games is welcome to the party.

‘‘It is a real pub sport; some players are better after a couple of drinks, while some play worse but it is always a fun day.

‘‘I think in the B grade Tavern 2 is in with a good chance as they are all really experienced players.

‘‘As for the A grade, I think it will be really close. The teams are pretty equal but Rattle has won all three meetings this year so they might have a slight advantage over Yacht Club.

‘‘On behalf of all the competitors I would like to say a huge thank you to all the venues that participate, for all that they do, from providing us with a bite to eat and a few beers and for putting up with us every week.’’

The competition kicks off at 11am and will see competitors socialising over a few beers and enjoying some friendly banter.
