NAME: Neil Churchill CLUB: Yacht Club Pool Team
Why pool? It is a great team sport and I have always been good at it. You meet some really nice people playing competition. How long have you been playing pool? I have been playing competition since I was 16, so around 39 years. What is the best thing about playing pool? The chance to do your best at what you are good at. The people you meet and it’s a lot of fun. What is the worst? For me, the worst thing is whan I see people make silly mistakes over and over again. Who is your favourite team mate? Neil Weavers. We have played doubles together for three years and only lost five times. We are undefeated this year. And he is a really good bloke. Ever been pantsed? Of course. You can’t play your whole life without it happening at least once. I used to play at a high level, so yeah it happens. How and when did you learn to play pool? When I was 10 years old. My older brother taught me the basics. I kept practising and started playing comp about six years later. Is there a limit to the drinks you can consume before your playing goes bad? Basically once I can feel it, I know I have had enough. I know when to stop, although I don’t always want to. How do you think your team will finish for the year? If we play our best pool for the year we could win the grand final, but Rattle are a strong team - guess it will depend on how we all play on the day. Who do you think will take out the grand final? For the A grade, it really could go either way, but if we play at the top of our game we have a chance. For B grade, I think Tavern 2 will take the title.
