ONE man is do­ing his bit for Port Dou­glas an­i­mal refuge Paws & Claws.

Help QT fit­ness man­ager Jeremy Le­beuf and his res­cue dog Buddy are out to raise funds for Paws & Claws, which des­per­ately needs sup­port to build its new fa­cil­i­ties be­fore for­merly home­less an­i­mals once again be­come home­less.

Jeremy and his wife adopted Buddy from Paws & Claws around five months ago and Jeremy said he is a great ad­di­tion to the fam­ily.

‘‘ We have been vol­un­teer­ing and walk­ing the dogs at Paws & Claws for years,’’ he said. ‘‘We just loved him and de­cided to take him home. We have been try­ing to work out how we can help them out be­cause Paws & Claws is such a great or­gan­i­sa­tion.’’

Jeremy, with the sup­port of QT Re­sort Port Dou­glas, will line up in the Great Bar­rier Reef half Marathon on Novem­ber 3, and un­less he can re­ceive more than $500 in do­na­tions to Paws & Claws by Oc­to­ber 1, he will run the full marathon.

QT Re­sort has sweet­ened the pot by draw­ing off a SPAQ voucher for two 2 to all who do­nate from now un­til Novem­ber 1. Do­nate on­line at pawsand­claws. org. au and state ‘‘Jeremy’s run’’, your name and con­tact de­tails to be in the draw for the SPAQ prize.

Liz Need, sec­re­tary of Paws & Claws, said the or­gan­i­sa­tion was thrilled Jeremy was tak­ing on this chal­lenge.

‘‘The Great Bar­rier Reef Marathon is a re­ally great lo­cal event and we know the com­mu­nity will get be­hind Jeremy in rais­ing $500 by Oc­to­ber 1, so he’ll up­grade to the full marathon dis­tance,’’ she said. ‘‘Since the com­mence­ment of our re­cent fundrais­ing drive, we have re­ceived some very gen­er­ous do­na­tions, how­ever, we still have a sig­nif­i­cant amount to raise by the end of the year in or­der to reach our tar­get bal­ance of $500,000.’’

The new fa­cil­i­ties will con­sist of a refuge for 30 an­i­mals, a care­taker’s res­i­dence, dog board­ing ken­nels (in­clud­ing pre­mium ken­nels), a cat­tery, car park, re­cep­tion area and space for a ve­teri­nary clinic.
