Direct flights increase to NZ
A further boost to visitation for next year was the announcement from Air New Zealand of the increase in the number of direct flights from Auckland to Cairns from two to five a week next year. There will be three flights a week between mid-April to mid-June, four during the second half of June and five between July and mid-October.
Holiday visitors from New Zealand to Tropical North Queensland are around 32,000 per year with 308,000 visitor nights. The Douglas region is currently the ’hot’ destination of choice for New Zealanders and t he increased flights are a step in the right direction for increase visitor numbers in 2014.
