Coral Coast bring­ing home medals

CORAL Coast Judo Club com­peti­tors brought home a bag of medals from a re­cent com­pe­ti­tion in Cairns. The three ju­nior com­peti­tors, Kai and Ge­or­gia North and Cameron Wood, from Coral Coast Judo Club were coached by An­dreas Sch­midt. It was Kai North’s first com­pe­ti­tion and he did the club proud win­ning his first two fights and was awarded the sil­ver medal af­ter be­ing de­feated in his third fight.

Cameron Wood also put smiles on the club’s faces win­ning his first two fights of the day and end­ing up with a bronze medal. Ge­or­gia North was a star of the day putting in an ab­so­lute mam­moth ef­fort.

The club’s Se­bas­tian Temesi re­cently re­turned from Brazil where he rep­re­sented Aus­tralia at the world cham­pi­onships in the un­der 90kg di­vi­sion. Se­bas­tian lost to Grig­orii Sulemin of Rus­sia (ranked 5 in the world) by one shido (penalty), nar­rowly miss­ing out on pro­gress­ing to the next round. To earn the do­mes­tic points re­quired to main­tain his rank­ing Se­bas­tian needs to com­pete at the Syd­ney In­ter­na­tional Open this Sun­day and the South Aus­tralian In­ter­na­tional Open on Oc­to­ber 5. To earn points to­wards his in­ter­na­tional rank­ing, Se­bas­tian will also need to go to the Euro­pean Open in Glas­gow in Oc­to­ber, the Ocea­nia Open in Samoa in Novem­ber and the Tokyo Grand Slam in De­cem­ber.
