Coral Coast bringing home medals
CORAL Coast Judo Club competitors brought home a bag of medals from a recent competition in Cairns. The three junior competitors, Kai and Georgia North and Cameron Wood, from Coral Coast Judo Club were coached by Andreas Schmidt. It was Kai North’s first competition and he did the club proud winning his first two fights and was awarded the silver medal after being defeated in his third fight.
Cameron Wood also put smiles on the club’s faces winning his first two fights of the day and ending up with a bronze medal. Georgia North was a star of the day putting in an absolute mammoth effort.
The club’s Sebastian Temesi recently returned from Brazil where he represented Australia at the world championships in the under 90kg division. Sebastian lost to Grigorii Sulemin of Russia (ranked 5 in the world) by one shido (penalty), narrowly missing out on progressing to the next round. To earn the domestic points required to maintain his ranking Sebastian needs to compete at the Sydney International Open this Sunday and the South Australian International Open on October 5. To earn points towards his international ranking, Sebastian will also need to go to the European Open in Glasgow in October, the Oceania Open in Samoa in November and the Tokyo Grand Slam in December.
