Jnr Dragons presentation

Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - CLASSIFIEDS -

THE Douglas United Junior Dragons had their presentation at their ground in Cassowary last Thursday night.

It was a great turn out with most players, coaches and parents attending. The club celebrated another strong season that saw the Under 9,10 and 11’s travelling to Endeavour Park Cairns on a weekly basis thanks to the commitment of the parents.

The teams did really well - in particular the under 11s who gave away just one loss for the whole season.

Five of these boys were selected to represent Cairns in a FNQ carnival in Townsville in June and they will be in Cairns all of next week battling against Townsville, Innisfail and other areas.

Some of them will be defending their title as best in FNQ Under 11s.

Each year Greta Burke and her family donate ‘‘The Johnny Burke Memorial Trophy’’ to whomever is regarded as the best and fairest player in the club. The committee have a vote and award the trophy accordingly.

This year the trophy was awarded to Jack Carr in recognition of excellent attitude over the year - he never misses a training session and he has a positive and encouraging attitude to the new or less skilled players.

He is a team player and was selected to play representative football.

The club wishes to all the sponsors for the season and to the trophy sponsors who made it all possible: Squirts - JKC Auto, Mossman; Under 6 - Ross Andreaseen Backhoe Hire; Under 7s - Sails Structures Port Douglas; Under 8s - The Newport on Macrossan, Port Douglas; Under 9s - Low Isles Sailawa; Under 10 - Blains Auto, Mossman; and the Under 11s - Mossman Welcome Mart.

The club is keen to recruit more players to come and join the Dragons next year to learn how to play the ‘‘World Game’’.
