Daintree power back on agenda

Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - FRONT PAGE -

THE provision of an efficient electricity supply for the Daintree is back on the agenda of the state government.

Local member David Kempton says he’s currently holding discussions with the Energy Minister to seek greater community consultation. Through this Mr Kempton said his strategy is to work out a plan that can be presented to the minister. ‘‘We can then present the minister with factual data, including the cost of supply and the logistics of achieving it through perhaps connection to the Mossman transformers,’’ Mr Kempton said. Once that is achieved, the federal government will be approached for support. Lack of access to the power grid has been a hot topic for Daintree residents, who were told last week it was too expensive.
