Lead­ing en­vi­ron­men­tal­ist helps Moss­man Botanic Gar­dens pro­ject with visit

THE world’s lead­ing en­vi­ron­men­tal phi­lan­thropist Doug Tomp­kins will give a pre­sen­ta­tion in Port Dou­glas on Satur­day week.

The Founder of North Face and Esprit has con­served and re­stored around one mil­lion hectares of valu­able wilder­ness and de­graded farm­lands in Chile and Ar­gentina. Mr Tomp­kins is prob­a­bly best known in Aus­tralia for his stance against whal­ing in the South­ern Oceans, his in­volve­ment with the Sea Shep­herd foun­da­tion. His ex­pe­ri­ences are very rel­e­vant Far North Queens­land in show­ing how farm­ing prac­tices can work ef­fec­tively with the two World Her­itage ar­eas, the Great Bar­rier Reef and the Wet Trop­ics.He will screen a video and give a pre­sen­ta­tion on his re­cent ac­tiv­i­ties at the Port Dou­glas Com­mu­nity Cen­tre on Satur­day, Oc­to­ber 3 at 6.30pm. En­try is by gold coin do­na­tion, with pro­ceeds go­ing to the Moss­man Botanic Gar­den Gar­dens.
