AS co-or­di­na­tor for the the Dou­glas Shire Sus­tain­abil­ity Group’s Man­groves Clean Up site I would like to thank vol­un­teers Peter Priebe, David Carey, Heidi Tay­lor (Tan­garoa Blue), Am­ber Rich, Dave and Gail Jowett, Ka­trin Aia and Kevin Eldridge for their time and ef­forts last Sun­day.

The clean up was or­gan­ised in con­junc­tion with the Clean Up Aus­tralia Day - Great North­ern Clean Up and tar­geted Wharf Street, Port Dou­glas be­tween Port O’ Call Back­pack­ers and the Port Dou­glas Yacht Club.

Vol­un­teers col­lected enough bot­tles, tins, plas­tic and cig­a­rette butts to fill seven wheelie bins. Three car tyres, a bi­cy­cle wheel, lam­i­nated tim­ber, flu­o­res­cent tube, ir­ri­ga­tion pipes, plumb­ing pipe, me­tal tub­ing, a paint tray, spade, step lad­der and the oblig­a­tory shop­ping trol­ley were also re­moved from the man­groves and road sides.

The DSSG will en­deav­our to make this an an­nual clean up event and wel­comes more vol­un­teers to join in their ef­forts next year.
