The roundabout we deserve?
A few months ago I attended a meeting with local member David Kempton and representatives of the Main Roads Department. At that meeting the Main Roads representatives indicated their preferred option was to do nothing at the intersection of the Cook Hwy and Port Douglas Road as they considered it was not a serious safety issue. They also indicated that a single lane roundabout could be built within a budget of about $2 million and that they may be able to include some aesthetic features within that budget. Now we have a plan for a single lane concrete roundabout. This it totally unacceptable for an iconic destination such as Port Douglas. Surely the state can afford a little more to provide some sort of entrance statement for Port Douglas. If not, just turf it and leave it up to the
