Medal grab for our athletes
TWENTY athletes from Douglas Athletics attended the LAQ Regional Championships in Tully, bringing back a large number of medals.
Over 260 athletes from Tully to Cooktown and inland to Ravenshoe competed in the two-day competition.
Athletes placing first to fourth qualify to attend the State Championships to be held in Cairns in March 2014.
Despite the conditions being windy and the ground was wet the athletes performed amazingly well.
Ethan Crees set new records for 60m hurdles, 100m and shot put.
He also won the 200m and 400m.
Reagan Crees also had a great competition winning the 60m hurdles, 70m, 100m, 200m, long jump and high jump and placing second in shot put.
Kerrin Brennan, placed second in discus and javelin and third in shot put.
Melissa Callander achieved second in the 60m hurdles, third in the 200m, triple jump and javelin.
Emily Callander won triple jump, high jump and came second in 100m, 200m and long jump.
Trinity Beitzel placed fourth in the 800m and achieved a personal best in high jump.
Fletcher Beitzel took out second place in the discus and third in the 400m and 800m races.
Unity Beitzel had a successful competition winning the 800m, 1500m and high jump, placing second in the 60m hurdles and third in triple jump and javelin.
Jasmine Blain was second in the 80m hurdles, third in triple and long jump and fourth in 100m, 200m and 400m.
Gus Reynolds achieved a personal best in shot put and placed second and also a large personal best in his long jump.
Amber Hawking knocked 33 seconds of her 1500 m time and also achieved personal bests’s in the 800m and triple jump.
Ryan Hawking ran a great 800m to come second and also got personal best’s in the 400m and shot put.
Jakob Davis achieved five personal bests in the 100m, 200m, long jump, shot put and discus.
Jorja Davis threw a personal best in discus of over 1m, winning it on her final throw. She also came fourth in shot put.
Lafe Hatfield took out third place in the high jump and achieved a personal best in this event and high jump.
Jack Hatfield competed well making it through to the finals for all the sprints.
Tyson Osborne smashed his personal best b in the 60m hurdles placing third and had a huge personal best in discus coming fourth and also fourth in long jump.
Lahni Hawking, Charli Osborne and Tyson Crees all competed to the best of the best of their abilities and achieving personal best for a number of events.
They received a participation medal for their efforts.
