Medal grab for our ath­letes

TWENTY ath­letes from Dou­glas Ath­let­ics at­tended the LAQ Re­gional Cham­pi­onships in Tully, bring­ing back a large num­ber of medals.

Over 260 ath­letes from Tully to Cook­town and in­land to Raven­shoe com­peted in the two-day com­pe­ti­tion.

Ath­letes plac­ing first to fourth qual­ify to at­tend the State Cham­pi­onships to be held in Cairns in March 2014.

De­spite the con­di­tions be­ing windy and the ground was wet the ath­letes per­formed amaz­ingly well.

Ethan Crees set new records for 60m hur­dles, 100m and shot put.

He also won the 200m and 400m.

Rea­gan Crees also had a great com­pe­ti­tion win­ning the 60m hur­dles, 70m, 100m, 200m, long jump and high jump and plac­ing sec­ond in shot put.

Ker­rin Bren­nan, placed sec­ond in dis­cus and javelin and third in shot put.

Melissa Cal­lan­der achieved sec­ond in the 60m hur­dles, third in the 200m, triple jump and javelin.

Emily Cal­lan­der won triple jump, high jump and came sec­ond in 100m, 200m and long jump.

Trin­ity Beitzel placed fourth in the 800m and achieved a per­sonal best in high jump.

Fletcher Beitzel took out sec­ond place in the dis­cus and third in the 400m and 800m races.

Unity Beitzel had a suc­cess­ful com­pe­ti­tion win­ning the 800m, 1500m and high jump, plac­ing sec­ond in the 60m hur­dles and third in triple jump and javelin.

Jas­mine Blain was sec­ond in the 80m hur­dles, third in triple and long jump and fourth in 100m, 200m and 400m.

Gus Reynolds achieved a per­sonal best in shot put and placed sec­ond and also a large per­sonal best in his long jump.

Am­ber Hawk­ing knocked 33 sec­onds of her 1500 m time and also achieved per­sonal bests’s in the 800m and triple jump.

Ryan Hawk­ing ran a great 800m to come sec­ond and also got per­sonal best’s in the 400m and shot put.

Jakob Davis achieved five per­sonal bests in the 100m, 200m, long jump, shot put and dis­cus.

Jorja Davis threw a per­sonal best in dis­cus of over 1m, win­ning it on her fi­nal throw. She also came fourth in shot put.

Lafe Hat­field took out third place in the high jump and achieved a per­sonal best in this event and high jump.

Jack Hat­field com­peted well mak­ing it through to the fi­nals for all the sprints.

Tyson Os­borne smashed his per­sonal best b in the 60m hur­dles plac­ing third and had a huge per­sonal best in dis­cus com­ing fourth and also fourth in long jump.

Lahni Hawk­ing, Charli Os­borne and Tyson Crees all com­peted to the best of the best of their abil­i­ties and achiev­ing per­sonal best for a num­ber of events.

They re­ceived a par­tic­i­pa­tion medal for their ef­forts.
