Port’s Cardiac Challenge riders raise $6K
A GROUP of Port Douglas cyclists is sore, tired but triumphant after successfully completing the three-day Cardiac Challenge Charity ride from Cairns to Cooktown. The Port contingent comprised Marco Piat, Guy Ely, Rohan Tay- lor, Cindy and Brian Collyer and Callum Jones, with the support crew of Sasha and Nadine Lowenstein-Jones, Dylan Collyer and Joanne Piat.
The event began on Saturday morning, with a record 352 cyclists taking part in the gruelling three-day ride to raise funds for the Cairns Hospital Cardiac Unit. The route took them over the Tablelands where the riders faced some tough and steep climbs. The first day’s ride finished at Mt Carbine, day two saw the cyclists travel to Lakeland, with the final leg to Cooktown completed on Monday. The Port Douglas contingent raised a total of $5991, and organisers are confident of reaching their goal of raising $350,000.
