Port’s Car­diac Chal­lenge rid­ers raise $6K

A GROUP of Port Dou­glas cy­clists is sore, tired but tri­umphant af­ter suc­cess­fully com­plet­ing the three-day Car­diac Chal­lenge Char­ity ride from Cairns to Cook­town. The Port con­tin­gent com­prised Marco Piat, Guy Ely, Ro­han Tay- lor, Cindy and Brian Col­lyer and Cal­lum Jones, with the sup­port crew of Sasha and Nadine Lowen­stein-Jones, Dy­lan Col­lyer and Joanne Piat.

The event be­gan on Satur­day morn­ing, with a record 352 cy­clists tak­ing part in the gru­elling three-day ride to raise funds for the Cairns Hos­pi­tal Car­diac Unit. The route took them over the Table­lands where the rid­ers faced some tough and steep climbs. The first day’s ride fin­ished at Mt Car­bine, day two saw the cy­clists travel to Lake­land, with the fi­nal leg to Cook­town com­pleted on Mon­day. The Port Dou­glas con­tin­gent raised a to­tal of $5991, and or­gan­is­ers are con­fi­dent of reach­ing their goal of rais­ing $350,000.
