Fiftieth reunion set
FORMER Mossman High students are organising a casual reunion for those in classes 1959, 1960 and 1961.
Over 50 years since they first started school, two friends Betty Modric and Ruth Lindstrum decided it would be great to get everyone back together for one night of reminiscing.
Ruth Lindstrum, who now lives in Seattle, said she visits Mossman every two to three years but rarely gets the opportunity to see former classmates.
She is visiting Mossman in December and said it was a perfect opportunity to meet up with old friends and share stories of the fun times.
‘‘I seem to remember the time we got together after school more than during school - how many time did a bunch of us get together for swims at Foxton or the Big Rapids (not to be done now), or Newell, or going to the pictures on a Saturday night,’’ Ms Lindstrum said.
‘‘Then there were the parties at someone’s house, playing postman’s knock, spin the bottle, listening to the radiogram playing Elvis or Ricky Nelson and agonising over who liked who.
‘‘It will be great to meet each other as adults, hearing about what each has done in the years since, sharing those good and bad times in-between and being glad to do so! If nobody else comes, Betty and I will still have a great time!’’
Betty Modric, who lives in Cairns, said the last time they had a reunion was to celebrate Mossman High School’s centenary and they decided to put the call out early to give people notice. ‘‘We have some great memories and had a couple of terrific classes and it’s a chance to go down memory lane, catch up for happy hour and see how it goes from there,’’ she said.
‘‘ If you have contact with these people not living in the area or know people from these classes please contact them.’’
The reunion for Mossman High classes 1959, 1960 and 1961 will be on Wednesday, December 18 at the Mossman Memorial Bowls Club from 5pm. Contact Betty Modric on 4053 1728, firstname.lastname@example.org
