A FREE seminar is being held for those who aspire to become a councillor or mayor in the new Douglas Shire.

The Queensland Government encourages anyone who wants to participate in making decisions and delivering ser- vices for the benefit of their community to stand for local government. Local Government Minister David Crisafulli said the seminar is a great way for people to better understand the roles. ‘‘We want to give people considering stand- ing for council a better understanding of the challenges, tasks and expectations councillors are faced with,’’ Mr Crisafulli said. ‘‘While the best council candidates are always those that want to make a positive contribution to their community, it’s important they have the best possible insight into what it’s like to be a councillor.’’ The seminar will be held on Monday, October 14, 6 pm to 9 pm at the Council Administration Office, 64-66 Front Street, Mossman.
