Authorities say Seafaris wreck not a concern
MARITIME Safety Queensland have said they are not concerned about a small amount of diesel leaking from the super yacht, which sunk off the coast near Cow Bay.
The incident occurred last Thursday when sixteen people had to be rescued after the $15 million Seafaris, owned by Newcastle Lord Mayor Jeff McCloy, caught fire and sank.
The first started in the port engine room. MSQ said their divers detected small bubbles of diesel escaping from the hull but said it would do more damage to the hull to try and plug the small leaks than to just leave it. They are currently working on a salvage plan to lift the wreck from the bottom of the sea.
