Sunset hits the Park
THE big day has arrived, the 2013 Sunset in the Park, with the region’s favourite local acts and a big name in the music industry.
Headlining the day will be Michael Stangel, former contestant on The Voice who will hit the stage at 6pm.
Ten hours of music from 10 bands will entertain audiences at Rex Smeal Park on October 12.
Michael has a long and varied history in music having written and performed on tracks for artists such as Shannon Noll, The Veronicas, Dean Geyer, Human Nature and The Androids.
In 2005 Michael produced and mixed an album called ‘‘Loss of Signal’’ by the Melbourne band Bourne, which rose to number 14 on the USA Billboard album chart.
After health i ssues, Michael was encouraged by a friend to audition for The Voice where he decided to join team Joel and made the top three in his team.
Since The Voice journey ended, Michael’s success has been building and he has found himself with many new opportunities. He is releasing an album by the end of the year.
‘‘ Since the Voice ended I’ve been busy. I have recorded an album, I wrote a book and have been performing a lot,’’ he said.
‘‘I have the opportunity to play gigs now that I never had before.
‘‘I have been coming to Port Douglas for around 15 years now, I actually used to play gigs in the Iron Bar.
‘‘I really love the area and look forward to spending some time in the beautiful weather and creating a bit of a holiday.’’
Other Far North favourites Eddie Skiba and the Durand Line, Grand Theft Audio, Salacious, Benny and the Clones, Omid Master, Mereanna, The Convictions, Willy-Joe, Tonic and Wizard Sleeve will also grace the stage at intervals throughout that day.

There will be snags and burgers available all day and it is a licensed venue.
Gates open at noon.
