Sun­set hits the Park

THE big day has ar­rived, the 2013 Sun­set in the Park, with the re­gion’s favourite lo­cal acts and a big name in the mu­sic in­dus­try.

Head­lin­ing the day will be Michael Stan­gel, for­mer con­tes­tant on The Voice who will hit the stage at 6pm.

Ten hours of mu­sic from 10 bands will en­ter­tain au­di­ences at Rex Smeal Park on Oc­to­ber 12.

Michael has a long and varied his­tory in mu­sic hav­ing writ­ten and per­formed on tracks for artists such as Shan­non Noll, The Veronicas, Dean Geyer, Hu­man Na­ture and The An­droids.

In 2005 Michael pro­duced and mixed an al­bum called ‘‘Loss of Sig­nal’’ by the Mel­bourne band Bourne, which rose to num­ber 14 on the USA Bill­board al­bum chart.

Af­ter health i ssues, Michael was en­cour­aged by a friend to au­di­tion for The Voice where he de­cided to join team Joel and made the top three in his team.

Since The Voice jour­ney ended, Michael’s suc­cess has been build­ing and he has found him­self with many new op­por­tu­ni­ties. He is re­leas­ing an al­bum by the end of the year.

‘‘ Since the Voice ended I’ve been busy. I have recorded an al­bum, I wrote a book and have been per­form­ing a lot,’’ he said.

‘‘I have the op­por­tu­nity to play gigs now that I never had be­fore.

‘‘I have been com­ing to Port Dou­glas for around 15 years now, I ac­tu­ally used to play gigs in the Iron Bar.

‘‘I re­ally love the area and look for­ward to spend­ing some time in the beau­ti­ful weather and cre­at­ing a bit of a hol­i­day.’’

Other Far North favourites Ed­die Sk­iba and the Du­rand Line, Grand Theft Au­dio, Sala­cious, Benny and the Clones, Omid Mas­ter, Mere­anna, The Con­vic­tions, Willy-Joe, Tonic and Wizard Sleeve will also grace the stage at in­ter­vals through­out that day.

Tick­ets are avail­able from Good­ies Cafe, Ori­gin Espresso and online at news­port. com. au for just $ 15 per adult or $8 per child or can be pur­chased at the gate for $20/$10.

There will be snags and burg­ers avail­able all day and it is a li­censed venue.

Gates open at noon.
