Marc McCormack wins prestigious press photo award
THE Cairns Post’s photographic editor Marc McCormack has won the 2013 NikonWalkley Community/Regional Prize for photography.
The national accolade was announced on Tuesday night. Mr McCormack’s work, which included five photographs of community life in the Far North, was described by the judges as showing ‘‘creativity in covering the range of stories regional photographers are faced with every day.’’
‘‘From illustrating a heat wave with an acrobatic dog, to sporting action at a rodeo and coaxing a tiny newborn turtle from his shell, McCormack brings the stories of his Cairns community to life.’’ It is the second time in his career Mr McCormack has been honoured with a Walkley, one of the highest media awards in the country. It also adds to achievements including the APJ 2013 photograph of the year (professional); twice winner of the Clarion Awards, Queensland; and finalist in the World Wildlife Photographer of the Year Awards held in London.
