State fu­neral for for­mer Le­ich­hardt MP David Thom­son

A STATE fu­neral will be held on Mon­day Novem­ber 4 for for­mer Mem­ber for Le­ich­hardt David Thom­son who died last Sun­day, Oc­to­ber 13, at the age of 89.

Mr Thom­son, who was born in 1924, was the Mem­ber for Le­ich­hardt from 1975-1983, dur­ing the Fraser Gov­ern­ment, and dur­ing that time was Min­is­ter f o r Sci­ence and En­vi­ron­ment (1979-1980) and Min­is­ter for Sci­ence and Tech­nol­ogy (1980-1983).

He lost the seat to John Gayler (ALP) in 1983.

Mr Thom­son was a ca­reer sol­dier, re­tir­ing in 1972 as a bri­gadier.

The state fu­neral will be at 11am on Novem­ber 4, at the AN­ZAC Me­mo­rial Chapel of St Paul, Can­berra. In lieu of flow­ers, do­na­tions can be made to the Legacy Bate­mans Bay, ( 02) 4472 8617.

Many older res­i­dents in the Dou­glas re­gion re­mem­ber the for­mer mem­ber well.
