Ride to Work fea­tures in Port Dou­glas and Cairns

A turnout of 30 lo­cals from all walks of life, fit­ness and ex­pe­ri­ence lev­els met at IGA Carpark 6am yes­ter­day to par­tic­i­pate in the day’s events.

Ride To Work Day is fo­cused on in­tro­duc­ing new peo­ple to cy­cling and mak­ing them feel com­fort­able on their bike, to en­cour­age them to choose the healthy travel mode more of­ten.

Lo­cal le­gends Les­ley Stephens and Gavin Hardy con­ducted the 30-rider train through the streets of Port Doug- las which ended up on the Es­planade where a free BBQ break­fast do­nated by Actin Fit­ness was served.

‘‘It was a fan­tas­tic morn­ing, let’s aim to triple num­bers next year,’’ Ms Stephens com­mented post event.

A larger event for about 200 rid­ers col­lected in Cairns, which was more than four times the amount of last year’s turnout.

Nick Car­ling con­ducted a train from the north­ern beaches into Cairns city.
