Deaf­en­ing si­lence

I am deaf­ened by the si­lence of the Dou­glas com­mu­nity in gen­eral, of the Moss­man and Cairns North­ern Beaches com­mu­ni­ties in par­tic­u­lar, of our elected rep­re­sen­ta­tives (lo­cal and state gov­ern­ment), of the tourist in­dus­try, and of our me­dia, re­gard­ing Mackay Su­gar’s in­ten­tion to truck seven hun­dred thou­sand (700,000) tonnes of Table­lands su­gar cane to the Moss­man Mill next (2014) cane sea­son, and for a pos­si­ble four more years there­after.
