ALTHOUGH the main construction work was undertaken by the contractor and his team, work such as reroofing the clubhouse was undertaken by volunteers of various skill levels supervised by Bob. Those volunteers included the shire building inspector who had come out to lend a hand. ‘‘It was during this roofing operation that drinkers in the club were disturbed by an enormous crash, and on entering the kitchen found a dazed but unhurt building inspector who had fallen from the roof and through the ceiling. Rumours abounded that he was pushed by one of the tradesmen also on the roof, but apparently a sudden gust of wind while he was carrying a sheet of iron was the cause.
