Muddies big bash kicks off
THE inaugural Muddies big bash teed off last Friday night under the lights of the Port Douglas Sporting Complex. The Sheraton Shockwaves took on the B Team Blasters in a social game of T20 cricket. The Shockwaves captain, Dan Redfern won the toss and sent the B team in on a greenish pitch that looked to have something in it for both batsmen and bowlers with 120 looking to be a par score.
The Blasters struggled to make the most of the conditions with only Rob Borzi (10), Ben Gaske (12), Hayden D’Addona (13) and Flynn Loomes (14) making double figures with the team bundled out for 85 off 17 overs.
The bowling of the Shockwaves was steady with Goodo taking the honours with 2 for 2 off his two overs. The bowlers were supported by some exceptional fielding, particularly by man of the match Kane Friel- ing who took two sensational diving catches.
The Shockwaves started aggressively with all of their batsmen contributing. Frieling again starred, scoring 34 in quick time to secure a maiden victory for the Sheraton team with eight overs to spare. The best of the bowlers was Rob Borzi with 1 for 10 off his two overs. The game was a great advertisement for the game and this Friday will again be a great spectacle with The Port Douglas Royals taking on the IGA Tavern Bandits at 6.30pm at the Port Douglas Sporting Complex.
