How to vote

Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - FRONT PAGE -

THE draw of candidates for the Douglas Shire Council elections was on Friday, October 18.

Pre-poll voting for the Douglas Shire election begins on Monday, October 28 and closes on Friday, November 8.

There are details about the voting process that all voters need to be aware of, especially in light of the large field of candidates. It is a first-past-the-post poll. In the mayoral election, a vote will be valid if the voter numbers the candidates 1, 2 and 3 according to their choice. Or they can simply vote for one candidate.

In the vote for councillors, a vote will be valid if the voter numbers the candidates from to 1 to four. You must vote for at least four candidates.

Very importantly, a voter must write no messages on the voting paper or else their vote will be ruled invalid!
